BiographyLeona Louise Hoey, 91, of Rockford, went to be with her lord at 12:42 p.m. Monday August 27, 2007 in Swedish American Hospital. Born March 21, 1916 to Carl and Eva (Tolf) Hedrick in Rockford. Married to Joseph Hoey in Rockford January 25, 1936. She was employed for many years as a waitress at the Faust Hotel for banquets and Manager of the employee's lounge of City Bank. She also volunteered at River Bluff Auxiliary and Rockford Day Nursery. She was a member of Memorial Baptist Church and The Salvation Army. She also loved to bake for her family.Survivors include her daughter, Juanita Hoey of Minneapolis, son, Mark S (Barbara) Hoey of Roscoe, daughter in law, Lana Hoey of Decatur. Grandchildren, Rebecca Hoey of Decatur, IL, Amy (TJ) Barber of Decatur, IL Daniel Hoey of Chicago and Melissa Hoey of Rockford. Great grandchildren, Donovin Sims, Jessica Scroggins & Christian Barber. Niece Bonnie Sansom and Nephew, Jim Kimmel of Jackson, Missouri and numerous other nieces, nephews & friends. She was predeceased by her parents, her husband Joe and her son Carl Hoey and Grandchildren Christopher Hoey, Marie Hoey and 2 sisters. Leona's family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks and gratitude to the staff of the Eagle unit at River Bluff Nursing home for all their devoted and loving care of Leona. Especially to Lori, for her love, time and wonderful friendship. We are forever indebted to them. Grandma we love you and will hold you close to our hearts forever. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday September 1, 2007 at Julian-Poorman-Welte Funeral Home 304 N. 5th St. Rockford with Major Randy Hellstrom of the Salvation Army officiating. Burial at Willwood burial park. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family. Visitation will take place from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday August 31, 2007 at the funeral home.
