Phyllis Laverne Coupar, 66, of Rockford died at 10:58 P.M. Tuesday, May 18, 2010, at Rockford Memorial Hospital after a brief illness. Born December 6,1943, in Tucson, AZ., daughter of Edward and Adelyn Gooddell Collier. A lifelong Rockford resident, Phyllis was a professional stained-glass artist who loved all aspects of nature, especially hummingbirds and waterfalls. She had a great sense of humor, loved jokes, and loved to give funny gifts, as well as thoughtful ones; she was always thinking of others and often bought little trinkets for the people in her life. She had a caring, kind heart. She loved her husband, children and grandson immensely. Before her health failed, she enjoyed bicycling with her family. She was an avid reader, whether it was the daily newspaper or a novel; she loved to learn. She also loved Celtic music, Riverdance performances, and Galena, where her father was raised. When her children were young, she operated a day-care center in her home. She also was a member of Al-Anon. She graduated from Rockford East High in 1961, and married Robert Coupar in Rockford on Feb. 18, 1967. Predeceased by her father, Edward G. Collier, and sister, Vicky Collier. Survivors include mother, Adelyn Collier; husband Robert Coupar; daughter Michelle Coupar; son Mark (Wendy) Coupar; and grandson Connor Coupar, all of Rockford; brothers Ed (Lorna) Collier and Jim (Theresa) Collier; nieces Elizabeth, Sarah, and Haylee; nephew Christopher, all of Belvidere; and sister, Carol (Clint Loyd) Collier, of Laramie, WY. Her beloved cats, Topaz and Tabitha, will miss her as well.
